5 Reasons to Choose a Catwalk System from Unistrut Midwest
March 22, 2023
Accessibility is always a major concern when maneuvering around complex building and warehouse structures. Rely on Unistrut catwalks and catwalk systems to deposit, transport, or remove your goods, inventory, and machinery from areas that are inaccessible from floor level. Unistrut industrial catwalk systems, designed and installed by Unistrut Midwest, are unique from typical structural steel walkways since they are designed with all bolted connections that eliminate the need for welding on almost all projects. The bolted connections allow the system to be modified, expanded, or altered to adapt to future requirements.
5 Reasons to Choose a Catwalk System from Unistrut Midwest
Prefabrication
The modular nature of Unistrut components allows our catwalks to be prefabricated in our warehouse to save time and on-site labor. Prefabrication also lets us safely construct the catwalk components on the ground and minimizes the amount of overhead work needed on a project, greatly reducing the hazards associated with working overhead.
Lightweight, High-Performance
Unistrut uses lightweight pre-galvanized or aluminum plank grating and Unistrut metal framing supports which reduces the overall dead load on the primary steel when compared to conventional structural steel systems.
Anti-Skid Protection
Unistrut plank grating features a surface that provides 360 degrees of slip resistance on all Unistrut catwalks.
Weld-Free Designs
Unistrut industrial catwalks use only bolted connections. From the beam clamps to the grating clips, all of the Unistrut catwalk connections use bolted hardware in lieu of welding. Many walkways are installed in existing facilities where welding is not feasible or allowed, which makes the Unistrut system ideal for these applications.
OSHA-Approved Walkways
Unistrut systems are designed with the latest OSHA walkway guidelines as our minimum standard. Unistrut includes a handrail and kick plate on all of our catwalk systems. Discover how our OSHA catwalks can promote safety and defer injuries in your facility.
Ready to submit a Catwalk System RFQ?
There are just a few items of information that we need to provide you with the best possible quote:
- What is your desired layout of the Catwalk system? If you can provide CAD drawings that would be great, but if you just have a sketch or drawing of your general idea it's usually good enough to get us started with the project.
- When we install the Catwalk we'll be attaching it to the building's steel or primary structure. If the Catwalk will be hanging from steel beams or joists, please indicate the orientation of the walkway to the primary steel and spacing of the beam. Not sure where to get this information? If you can provide structural details or drawings, we can do the work for you.
- How high will the Catwalk be installed? Please let us know the elevation of the primary structure, and the desired elevation of the walkway surface. Sometimes we'll need to know the finish ceiling height as well.
- We can customize the width of the walkway to nearly any size you need. If you're not sure, we can make professional recommendations based on our past projects.
- Do you have a specific pounds per square foot load requirement? We can design any Catwalk to meet your load requirements, but if you don't know let us know the purpose of the walkway and we can make a recommendation.
- Do you have any specific requirements? Are we installing in an active warehouse? Do you need the material powder coated a certain color? Do you need a certain finish or material such as Stainless Steel for corrosive environments?
Unistrut Midwest provides an all-in-one solution, from supplying materials to on-time delivery and installation.
