Overview
The Unistrut Midwest New Jersey team was approached by a mechanical contractor for an engineered rooftop access platform for an air handling unit at an office building. Our team was recommended to this contractor by another customer of theirs who had worked with our team in the past, and we were prepared to create an adaptable solution for this client.
Approach
Our team has years of experience building these rooftop access platforms for air handling units, so we knew that the client was going to need a system that allowed easy access to the unit for maintenance purposes. They would also need an adaptable solution should layout changes occur in the future.

Unistrut Midwest designed the solution, supplied the material, and installed the system, providing a full turnkey solution for this client. The process began with a site visit, allowing us to get a better sense of the specifics of the installation location. Due to the nature of the air handling unit and its various access panels and maintenance doors, our team knew that there would be small and specific adjustments needed to ensure a perfect fit for the support system. Our team determined that the best approach to accommodate these expected modifications would be to deliver all necessary materials before building the system on site.
Solution
This field-driven installation succeeded thanks to the adjustability of Unistrut and the expertise of our unionized installation team. The design of this solution anticipated the need for on-site cuts that could only be made once final measurements from the installed product were available.

Thanks to Unistrut's ease of use, our team could easily make these modifications on site. Using standard tools, the installation team was able to make minute cuts and adjustments to ensure that the strut did not impede any access points on the air handling unit. Whether moving a connection point an inch or two in either direction or slightly notching a piece of strut to ensure an access door could fully open, our installation team performed specific, on-the-fly changes to create a truly customized solution.
Thanks to our team's pre-planning and on-site expertise, this engineered rooftop access platform solution was completed on time and resulted in a satisfied client.
