How to Select the Correct Spanware® IMP Anchor for Your Shear Load Requirements

How to Select the Correct Spanware® IMP Anchor for Your Shear Load Requirements

November 5, 2024

Spanware® IMP Anchors are designed specifically for attaching Food Grade Strut and other industrial components to insulated metal panels commonly used as walls and ceilings in food processing facilities. They provide a secure attachment while maintaining the sanitation standards required of such environments.

There are a few different lines of Spanware® IMP Anchors to choose from and once you've found the correct type of anchor for your job, you'll then need to calculate your load to determine which anchor can safely support your application.

Safe Working Loads for Wall Mount (Shear) Spanware® IMP Anchor Applications

There are three wall mount applications to consider when determining which Spanware® IMP Anchor will meet your load requirements: 1. cantilevered stud, 2. cantilevered stud with Food Grade Strut, and 3. a pair of studs coupled vertically.

1. Cantilevered Stud Application

Selecting the correct anchor for this application is fairly straightforward and depends on a few variables.

In this application:

  • Restraint factor is approaching zero
  • Static loading @1g
  • Allowable downward shear force parallel to wall and within 1.2" of wall plane

The applicable anchors for this application are rated for one of two safe working loads: 17 lbs or 35 lbs.

Spanware® IMP Anchors rated for 17 lbs in a cantilevered stud application:

  • IMP-AD-375-S
  • IMP-AD-250-S
  • IMP-AD-210-S

Spanware® IMP Anchors rated for 35 lbs in a cantilevered stud application:

  • IMP-AD-375
  • IMP-AD-250
  • IMP-AD-210
  • IMP-AS-375

These load ratings paired with the information from the Spanware® IMP Anchor selection guide will help you determine the correct anchor for your application.

2. Cantilevered Stud with Food Grade Strut Application

Selecting the correct anchor in this application is similarly straightforward, as the anchors are again rated for one of two safe working loads: 12 lbs or 25 lbs.

In this application:

  • Restraint factor is approaching zero
  • Static loading @1g
  • Downward shear force parallel to wall and within 2.82" of wall plane

Spanware® IMP Anchors rated for 12 lbs in a cantilevered stud with Food Grade Strut application:

  • IMP-AD-375-S
  • IMP-AD-250-S
  • IMP-AD-210-S

Spanware® IMP Anchors rated for 25 lbs in a cantilevered stud with Food Grade Strut application:

  • IMP-AD-375
  • IMP-AD-250
  • IMP-AD-210
  • IMP-AS-375

These load ratings paired with the information from the Spanware® IMP Anchor selection guide will help you determine the correct anchor for your application.

3. Pair of Studs Coupled Vertically Application

For this third application, there are more variables to consider when determining if a Spanware® IMP Anchor meets your load requirements. In this application:

  • Restraint factor approaching one
  • Static loading @1g

Each anchor can support a different load depending on the anchor center distance "L" and the offset distance from the wall "D". The charts below give a closer look at those safe working loads.

These load ratings paired with the information from the Spanware® IMP Anchor selection guide will help you determine the correct anchor for your application.

Selecting the appropriate Spanware® IMP Anchor for your load can be the difference between a failed installation and a long-lasting, reliable one.
