Solve Concrete Insert Issues by Partnering with an Expert
May 6, 2025
There are so many moving pieces of a construction project that it can be tempting to cut corners when it comes to smaller details. Take concrete inserts, for example. While a crucial part of supporting your solution, their significance can be overlooked in pursuit of a faster installation or lower cost.
While foreign-made concrete inserts may be marginally less expensive than domestically produced Unistrut concrete inserts, they are typically slightly smaller than the expected 1-5/8". Unistrut channel nuts are, therefore, not compatible, which quickly complicates the installation process. We have also seen precast concrete companies ordering concrete inserts that don't meet size or load ratings for a project simply because they are less expensive or more readily available.
These seemingly small shortcuts can have huge ramifications for your project, even compromising the integrity of your solution.
We were recently brought in on a project with installation already well underway. The client was installing a Tate ceiling grid into precast concrete, but the concrete inserts had been installed arbitrarily. The concrete contractor had installed the inserts without following the required spacing for the ceiling grid, an issue that wasn’t caught until the ceiling grid installation started. The inserts were not lined up with the spacing required to install the Tate ceiling grid. Without a specialist on the project, this mistake was not caught until the concrete was in place and installation was starting on the ceiling grid.
With our years of Unistrut experience, our team was able to solve this issue, but it ultimately cost the client additional time and money. Had they partnered with our team from the beginning, this mistake could have been avoided.
Partner with Unistrut Midwest for Concrete Insert Applications
Unistrut Midwest is a full-service solution partner with decades of experience in Unistrut and secondary construction. This experience means we know the right questions to ask and resources to leverage in order to provide you with a custom solution.
Stamped Engineered Drawings
Our process begins with stamped engineered drawings of your solution. Because we know the requirements for a ceiling grid or ground-mounted support, we know the appropriate placement and load rating for concrete inserts. These specifics are called out in your drawings, highlighting which inserts should be used and where exactly they need to be placed to ensure a smooth installation.
Prefabrication and Material Delivery
With drawings approved, our team supplies the needed materials. We have the largest on-site inventory of Unistrut material in the country, which can cut down on lead times and improve your project timeline. We prefabricate as much as possible in our warehouse and deliver materials to your site to begin installation.

While our team does its best to address potential issues in the plans, issues can inevitably arise on-site. By partnering with an experienced team, you have access to our experts for timely and effective problem-solving.
