Unistrut Midwest offers custom designed platforms to meet specific customer requirements. The Unistrut Access platforms are made from stock materials that can be customized to match the project requirements. In today’s post, we will look at a custom designed work platform Unistrut designed for a building material manufacturer in Ohio.
Our customer was looking for a roughly 10’x30′ Work Platform to allow workers an ergonomic work platform to assemble garage door components. Workers would need to be able to insert 8′ long foam injection guns into a garage door and safely walk backwards as the foam is loaded into a door. The platform would need to be about 36″ above the ground to allow the workers to work at an ergonomic elevation. The client wanted two access points to the 30′ platform with OSHA approved stairs.
The customer also wanted ramps with handrail from the 36″ elevation to the ground to allow workers to inspect the doors at different elevations. The ramps needed to offer seamless transitions from the 30′ x 10′ platforms to the ground. The ramps also needed handrail on both sides for fall protection.
Unistrut Midwest was able to come up with a custom design that incorporated all of the customer requirements using standard components. The Unistrut Platform was design using P1001 Supports at 5′ on center to support G11282 Grating. On the perimeter of the platform, Unistrut used P1000 Channel to construct a two layer handrail to keep workers safe.
The stairs were designed using Unistrut channel and fittings for the framework and handrails. The grating used for stair treads was G91242 grating which is 9″ Wide, 14 Gauge, Anti-skid grating that met the design load requirements. The Unistrut ramps were custom designed using standard Unistrut channel, fittings, and grating. The ramp sections utilized supports for the grating and handrail at 48″ on center to provide 40PSF load rating on the ramp and 200 lbs rating on the handrails.
All Unistrut supports for the platform, stair, and ramps were able to be prefabricated offsite to reduce installation time on site. The platform, ramps, and stair units were installed in two days on site which minimized down time and let the manufacturer use the space sooner. Unistrut Midwest was able to design, prefabricate, and install the entire platform for the customer. For more information on Unistrut’s Installation Services, Installation Services.
