Case Study: Prefabricated Sikla siFramo Pump Skid Solution

Overview

When a Texas data center needed to convert their existing structural steel pump skids into a modular, all-bolted Sikla siFramo solution due to new project requirements, they turned to the experts at Unistrut Midwest. Our team had previously approached the client to introduce Sikla solutions, and we had become a trusted partner that they knew could meet their challenging deadline.

Approach

Because of the customer's aggressive project schedule, we knew that the best option for this solution was prefabrication. By assembling the pump skid solution off-site and then installing it in a fraction of the usual time, the customer could keep up with their demanding timeline. And, as a full-service solution partner with access to the NEFCO engineering team, we knew we could save them time by designing and supplying their solution.

Solution

The customer provided the BIM model and structural rendering using HSS tube and W-Beam steel for the skid frame. To accommodate the timeline, our team partnered with Sikla and NEFCO engineering teams to design, model, and certify the new Sikla skids at an accelerated rate.  

For the prefabrication work, each Sikla beam was pre-cut to size, with the different sections and connection points labeled. Components such as stanchions and rollers were provided by the NEFCO North Texas team and were kitted for each rack to maximize assembly efficiency upon arrival at the local fab shop. Unistrut Midwest Project Manager Jody Floyd was on site at the fab shop to train the customer team on Sikla products and best practices, as well as how to assemble the Sikla siFramo pump skids. Thanks to that hands-on training, each skid was built in under an hour by only two people. 

Through Unistrut Midwest and NEFCO collaboration, Sikla’s ease of assembly, and joint prefabrication efforts, we were able to help this customer meet their incredibly tight timeline.
