Using Unistrut Channel for a Customized Building Signage Support System
March 19, 2024
Building signage, or high-rise signage, is the big signage you see on top of skyscrapers or other large buildings that shows who owns the building. Sometimes building signage goes to the largest tenant of the building, and sometimes it represents the heritage or historical significance of the building. Building signage is a huge (no pun intended) branding and marketing opportunity, letting anyone who walks or drives by your building know who it belongs to.
Benefits of Building Signage
Identification
A sign on your high-rise sets your building apart from the dozens of others around it and makes it easier to find. By making the name of your building clear and apparent, building residents and passers-by alike can identify the location by name.
Personality
Whether it’s your logo, a unique font, or illuminated signage, your building sign can be an opportunity to bring some personality to your building. Pick a style that matches the history of your building, or choose something that contrasts against it and stands out. As long as it meets city code, the design is up to you.

Unistrut Midwest Signage Support Project
Our team was tasked with designing and installing a support for a neon sign on a 100-year-old skyscraper in Detroit, MI. Unistrut channel was the perfect solution for this project, easily tackling the challenges of this installation site, specifically the issue of no crane access.
Without crane access to the top of this building for installation, a welded steel structure was a non-starter. The best way to adequately support this sign, meet the challenge of high wind loads, and complete installation within the client’s tight window was to prefabricate a Unistrut support solution.
The Unistrut Midwest team was able to prefabricate the supports in sections that fit on the building’s cargo elevator, solving the problem of no crane access. From there, the prefabricated sections were connected on-site without the need for welding or specialized tools. This cut down on on-site man-hours and allowed our team to complete the project on schedule.
